Cinquain (well, sorta)
Although this does not follow the syllabic "formula" for cinquain, it does follow the general form:
The "Karen" mentioned in the second poem was a student teacher; she was the "brain" behind this writing project. I had a crush on her, I still remember how SWEET she was, and for the longest time, I wanted to be a teacher so I could be like her. Gosh, I wish I knew where she was so I could thank her for this book of mine.
Next up, we'll look at some stories with morals.
First Line: (2 syllables) One word, giving title
Second Line: (4 syllables) Two words, describing title
Third Line: (6 syllables) Three words, expressing action
Fourth Line: (8 syllables) Four words, expressing a feeling
Fifth Line: (2 syllables) Another word for the title.

That was very impressive for a 4th grade student. But what really got me was the penmanship, I never managed to write that neatly, right up until I gave up pens for keyboards.
The script bordered on calligraphy, especially the Ws.
EXCELLENT!
What more can I say?
WT, Thanks for the disclaimer, with you...well, I don't think even you would crush the spirit of a fourth grader, lol. There are no dates on my book, BUT, I know who Miss Meadows was a student teacher for (Mrs. Callahan;) ), and one of my stories has a "diary entry" in it that has to be close to when I was working on this. When I look at this now, it's like another person wrote this stuff...BUT, 1) my daughter won a penmanship contest in the third grade, and hers was much better THEN than mine has ever been (she's gone backwards...now I can barely read her); 2) I think that wasn't my "true" penmanship, I liked my friend's style, so I tried to imitate it. That was way too hard, I went back to "mine" by fifth grade. She was left handed and and when I wrote in cursive, I tried a left slant like her, too.
LCO, you, my dear, are much to kind...my skirt's around my head with all that air you're blowing up under it ;).
Oh my gosh, my sister in law is at CU (no one will know what that means!) right now. I miss South Carolina and Georgia a ton! Thankfully the weather has been lovely recently, so I only miss the southern nuances.
I think its funny that everything was comforting but the kitten. hee hee
I noticed the "comforting" also. But Karmyn beat me to the mention.
The penmanship put a picture in my mind of you holding your tongue to the side of your mouth, and nodding your head just so with each curve of the pen. Possibly a squinty left eye, too.
I will try this one more time. I can't get your blog to take my comment.
which was, incidentally, very good.
Okay..
I noticed "comforting" too.
Karmyn beat me to the punch.
I had a picture of you in my head. You had tongue in cheek, left eye squinty, and you were nodding your head just a bit with each squiggle of the pen.
I.N.T.E.N.T.
Neat, neat, neat. I love the fact that you were a "writer" early on. I was too. I still have all my early pieces neatly filed away. Poems, stories, DIARIES, and on. I always got "A's." You probably did too!
TRS, v e r y cool, chickadee. I'm glad you aren't too homesick :).
Karmyn, weeellll, you KNOW kittens ;).
Pamela, I love the "portrait" you painted :). And thanks for telling me twice, lol.
E-mom...As a matter of fact, I was an A-student. But I did get an F in highschool. In PE...maybe I'll write that one day, lol.
You'll have to post some of your old stuff sometime, I'd love to see it!
Spring, Karen, Kittens, Heaven...
What a wonderful keepsake to have to show your children. I love that you still have this. Vrey we-lli written and nice penmanship, too. A+
It might not be too difficult to find Karen. And as a retired teacher, I can tell you, there is nothing any more special than for a former student to find me and reminisce about 4th grade.
The school will have her records and if she continued in the profession, could easily find her for you.
Well rat guts to blogger anyway.
It told me it had timed out on that comment - after 15 minutes on my screen in "waiting for blogger" mode, I beleived the little turkey poot.
Hah!! I KNEW there was treasure in there!!
That was so sweet!!
