I love a tall caramel macchiato breve but despise ordering them, ESPECIALLY if I'm getting a grande or venti because it sounds rather pretentious. Seriously, why can't you just say a large with half & half, instead of "breve" and "venti". Small, medium, large. Does it REALLY taste any better with fancy smancy words?
When I went to Starbucks' website to pick up a picture for you, I saw the "nutrition facts table" for beverages. Boy, wasn't I excited when I saw one of my FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURES in the universe had only 170 calories, just 5 of which were "fat calories". It even had vitamin A (10%) and C (30%), a veritable health drink!
Yeah...............r i g h t. Try again. Who was I kidding!! NO wonder the dryer has been shrinking my clothes! :`(
I want to cry. I want to cuss. I want to cry and cuss, but I will do neither, because we ARE only talking coffee here.
Those calculations were with NON-FREAKIN'-FAT MILK! That was the default setting. I recalculated using half & half (breve), and my heart sank. We're up to 20% vitamin A now, and 9 grams of protein, but thanks for the whopping 450 calories, 310 of which are FAT CALORIES! (tears)
And then I remembered the Seinfeld "Non-fat Yogurt conspiracy" (can't figure out how to link this, but you can cut and paste in your browser: http://www.seinfeld-fan.net/videos/yogurt_mayor.mov ) and I KNEW I'd been had.
Off for a brisk walk in the neighborhood. And to mourn my loss ... Ignorance.WAS.Bliss (and evidently fattening, too)!

Check out my latest post...YOU ARE THERE !!!
Now I'm working on my "being tagged" assignment...and also, how to put a link in my comments.
Mmmmmm coffee......
Robin...so glad I was at least able to link to your profile page. Glad you saw the post...and still remember you thought my "glob" terms were endearing.
You know - they have the fanzy names, so they can charge ya $5 for a cup of coffee *grin*...
I get a frappo once in a blue moon.
I'm so sorry that you had to be slapped with reality.... was that slap as good as the caffeine jolt?
If your non-fat creamed coffee has a whopping 170 calories, just imagine how many a yummy DQ M&M Blizzard has!!!
Lrlwreath, am I supposed to turn the other cheek? That first slap HURT!
WT, Is Snoopy holding COFFEE??!! ;)
SW, not just your globberies, it's YOU that's endearing :).
Iris, We investigated our own espresso machine (the good ones)...let's see, at 4+ bucks a pop, how many would we have to make before we recoup the cost of a $1,000 machine?? If they took out the calories, it would be worth.every.dime!
Karmyn, I checked and it looks like a Blizzard (small) packs in over 600 calories but a lesser fat %age...14 grams of protein and 25% of vitamin A. Couldn't find exact calories for M&Ms, so maybe those are less (living in a fantasy world as I write that) ;)
I guess I am lucky in that I don't like coffee. Unfortunately, I do like MANY other calorie loaded things!
Anything non-fat, sugar-free, blah blah blah is a "why bother" in my book.
(I have a Chai Tea to treat myself at times... but coffee I just like uncluttered)
I switched to tall, extra foamy, green tea lattes with 1/2 pump of melon for awhile. Then I noticed that the melon sweetener was doing odd things to my skin. So now I'm back to my single short, extra foamy, non-fat latte.
My husband is always happy to order his usual tall Americano. Ahhh, life should be so simple...
P.S. When I'm feeling really indulgent, I'll try a tall caramel macchiato, in your honor. Maybe when we're on vacation. *-)
Hubby always reads the back of the box first and then makes some under-the-breath comment about how much the treat will shorten his life....I just eat it and figure when it's my time....;-)
Speaking of Blizzards...I can avoid Starnuck's all day but have a hard time passing up that Health (oops..HEATH) bar Blizzard..
Did I just type STARNUCK's? At least I typed 'passing' correctly... :)
Reading nutritional information at various fast food places has cured ANY cravings I might have had.....
I honestly think those drinks are too sweet. Yuck. And the price? I can get my own coffee at home, thank you, and with lactade milk too.
It's amazing that the things that taste the best are the most fattening!! i totally agree with the whole tall, grande, venti...why don't they just stick to the basics?? Is that so difficult?
Starbucks is giving free coupons to ANYONE who calls up customer relations to complain about the email they received. Get yours before everyone starts calling and they crack down again.

E-mom, lemme know if you sample my favorite. Tad and I got a venti (large) the othr night and I could barely sip it :/.
Starnucks, lol, made me giggle, Lori. Aren't Blizzards good for your HEALTH regardless of type?
Cheeky, time to stop reading :(.
Anna V. YUK. but giggling (and yeah, I growl at the price, but they put a secret addictive ingredient in 'em, so I can't help myself...on occasion).
C, you already know I agree;)
Is Jake Wolf REAL???
Oh sure, just ruin it for everybody! ;O) I shant look at the link, stay away from the link! Ignorance is bliss. The nearest Starbucks is 40 minutes away from me :(
I agree, I think there is an added, addictive ingredient. Beside caffeine, I mean. Msg or something. I have Coffee-Mate's vanilla carmel non-dairy in my fridge , it's pretty good. Not AS good, but good.
Speaking of sm, med, and lrg... this does have profanity in it, but makes that point. Pretty funny. IF you don't like it Robin, just delete this comment, no problem!
