Blind Date
I suppose "she" coulda been a serial blog-stalker, wielding a bloody axe with a trail of body bags in her recent past...or a 37-year-old scary man sitting alone in his dimly-lit basement, hunched over a pc with a watery gleam in his bulging eyes, blogging under the guise of a winsom and delightful blog designer...! I guess that coulda been the case....
It's not my blogmates who freak me out with this kind of scenario, but my peeps IRL who love to make me second guess who each and everyone of you "are". In real life. When you aren't sitting here reading or writing or both.
Guess what, y'all?
Today I met Susie of the cyber-famous Bluebird Blogs, template designer extraordinaire, and creator of my oh-so-fashionable tiny corner of the blogoverse, PENSIEVE sweet PENSIEVE! Over lunch. Guess where? (note: I did not suggest the venue, she did...not that I minded ;) )
Truly, really, we didn't just meet so I'd have yet another excuse for changchangchangalicous eats; we discovered close to the end of our (ahem) "professional relationship" that we lived about half an hour from each other--HOW COOL IS THAT?? Ever since then, we've been working on our date, but first I went out of town, then she went out of town...you know the drill. Life, coming atcha, full steam.
So, today was THE day, and it was bloggerific :). She was exactly "who" I expected, NOTHING to do with body bags or covert "plans". Just a lovely lady with quite a talent. It was such a nice lunch date, we're already talking about the next one.
To add a bit of neato-torpedo to our meeting (and coincidence...at least to me, anyway) I was the 25,000 visitor to her personal blog. Seems I have quite the penchant for being a milestone-kind-of-gal.
Off to power clean...people (in real life) are coming over and I'll get to taste test the THIRD and final pound of my Folgers Gourmet, if I'm not mistaken, a Lively Columbian ;).

How fun! Small world :)
I've met some of my online friends in person also--really wierd to meet someone for the first time when you already know everything about them, LOL.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who second guesses who everyone "is" in real life! LOL! I can only vouch for my good buddy Old Dominion Heather> You seem like the "real deal" too ;)
you crack me up! I certainly hope you're no Jeffrey Dahmer! eeekkkk!!!! & Malissa - is SHE really who she says she is?
And PFChang's, again? Is this some king of obsession with you?
btw we had an excellent honey walnut prawn dish on Sunday night, followed by a yam soup & Peking duck, but we don't do PFChangs. I'd lose my job if I were seen there!
Glad you got to meet a new friend
You have a curios ability to be in the right place, in the right line.
To be the "mile marker"
I think it would be scary to meet someone - not because they would show up with a chain saw, but rather they would be disenchanted - that I wouldn't live up to their expectations.
Must be nice to win all the labels!
;)
And I'm not really me. I'm a big hairy dude named Vince.
It's a small world after all....(sorry started to sing there).
That is so cool and yes I am totally jealous. Hope you guys had a great time.
Blessings.
I had a fabulous time with you today, Robin! We'll have to do it again soon.
I would write more, but I must go work on walking on the land of foreign countries - LOL! ;)
I'm so JEALOUS! I never get to meet anyone in booneyville up here.
Boooo-hoooo.
And a half-hour away? That is so cool.
Cripes, it's a half-hour to a gas station from my house.
It is a difficult thing to meet people in your online blog life. I like the fact that it seems easier to be very open with folks online. Perhaps it's the fact that you don't have to ever meet them. But I have been much closer to my online friends than those who have been in my same town.
To date, I've gone on vacation the past two years with friends in TX, I've had dinner with a friend of mine this past summer in NM. And I'm currently dating another friend.
Prior to the blogospere, I've made friends with others who I've started businesses with and eventually sold them off.
So, sometimes it's worthwhile to take a risk. But I do think it's easier for a guy than for a girl. Not too many girls out there stalking guys to jump.
I think you have to follow your instincts whether online or in person....
That's great that you finally got to meet each other and have a fabu lunch.
I have great fondness for all my blogging friends, but just for the record: I have no desire to meet any of them.
That's no reflection on them, its just that I don't play well with others. You all know that I live three hours away from my wife, in the middle of nowhere - does that suggest anything?
Yikes - are you suggesting that maybe Pamela isn't really my mom? Or Amanda isn't really my sister. Could they be posers? OMG!!!! That terrifies me. I'm calling off Christmas.
Kila, this was the first time I've met someone, but I think a "safe" venue like a blogging convention (geez, what a nerd) might be cool. If someone wierds you out, just move along (lol).
Susan, that's the thing...few of my friends IRL BLOG! But, Susie and I agreed...you really do get to "know" a person here...or at least what they allow you to know. I guess there ARE posers, but if you stick with someone long enough, don't you think you KNOW??? I'll check out your friend (I think I have before....).
LCO, yes it's an obsession, but I'm about to overload. Think I need a break, even! Who woulda ever thunk that??? Why would you lose your job? Do you work at a competitor's or something?? lol, and that Malissa, you'd better watch her...no tellin' where SHE came from ;)!
Pamela...not a snowball's chance where you're concerned. As far as me and my ability to be "at the right place, in the right line"...why can't it be winning $1,000,000 for being the 5,000,000th customer at Wal-Mart or something????
Vince, great, I'm a label-dropper (lol).
Laurel Wreath, It WAS fun! And cool! And I had always wanted to meet a blogpal IRL...now I can cross "that" off my list. Wait...that's Swampy, I don't make lists....:).
SUSIE! Hey! Long time, no see!! My husband was glad you didn't end up being a guy named Vince.
Kelly, BUT YOU TRAVEL FOR A LIVIN'...when you blow into a place, you could hook up with someone then, right? Or are you taking a year off completely?
To date, I've gone on vacation the past two years with friends in TX, I've had dinner with a friend of mine this past summer in NM. And I'm currently dating another friend.
Mike, you mean the above with people you've met online? And I think you're right, guys don't have to worry quite so much about girls...then again, they might be wishful thinking something zany like that might happen :/.
Claudia, Yeah, I think instinct goes a long way. It was dead on this time :).
WT, Ahhh, your self-awareness serves you well. In other words, I could be offended you wouldn't want to meet "us"; instead, I totally get it. Dogs & cats don't whine. Wait a second...YES THEY DO!
Karmyn, all I'm saying is you'd better watch over your shoulder ;).
I told you Malissa was really who he said she was.
I'll tell ya about the "competitors" one of these days - another one of those "things about me you probably don't know"
Yes. These are folks I've met online. I don't view the Internet as being too much different than talking to someone on the telephone. In business, you're always in the habit of meeting someone for the first time.
Also, I couldn't imagine using this vehicle to find a romantic interest. I think you simply make friends and see who you resonate with. From their you develop acquaintances, casual friends, good friends, best friends and perhaps more.
For women, there are probably safe guards you can put in place like you might for a blind date. Daylight and very public places make for a great start. And kudos to you for being willing to meet a friend. I think that's great.
Wow, you must have some kind of rapid-response team when it comes to commenting on your posts. So many show up here so fast!
I recently got to do the same thing with our mutual blog friend, Heather L'Chaim. We had such a ball! And I can testify that her hair really does do that neat kicky thing in the back.
How cool is that?!? - She does some really nice work - and now she does even WP. But then again - I love my little creature...So, maybe a design for my neglected photoblog. Susie actually just did a custom design for Laurel at Laurel Wreath :) - another great work.
